About Us

Breeding for type, temperament, health and ability

Let me introduce us we are Katy and Andrew Olsson and we live in the village of Sutton Bonington in the East Midlands area.

Our family consists of  three adult children, Hungarian Vizslas, Westies and Ragdoll cats,

To say our life is governed by dogs would be an understatement our whole family share a passion for dogs and the sporting activities that they engage in.

A quick break down of how it began

We bought our first Hungarian Vizsla back in 1999 Back then the breed was very rare and they were almost unheard of.

We actually acquired our first dog having. made a poor purchase decision when buying a Weimaraner puppy

Having chosen a Weimaraner puppy out of the free ads and realised this puppy was completely unsocialised and in no way at all suitable for our young family.

We were unfortunately left in the situation where we needed to rehome the Weimaraner.

When discussing rehoming, I was told about the Hungarian Vizsla, a kinder, slightly smaller HPR who would still be suitable as a gundog to work for Andrew,

Our love of the breed was born then...

Later on we decided to breed from our female so that we could retain a puppy for our family.

This was the first time Katy had ever bred a pedigree dog to say it was eye opening was an understatement.

She had no experience of the breeding process or any comprehension of the sheer amount of work involved.

However, the breeding of this litter did light a passion and a love of breeding dogs was born

Katy went on to complete multiple courses studying genetics and canine breeding, which led her  to realise just how inbred the breed was in the country at that time.

In 2002 we took the decision that Katy would give up work and Katy would breed the Hungarian Vizslas as her job,

Andrew has continued to work fulltime for a local government agency as he still does today.

Katy decided that to do it properly and to be able to give the best quality puppies to our customers, she was going to need to import some new blood from their country-of-origin Hungary,

Back then, Hungary was not even in the European Union so importing dogs was extremely difficult and involved a lot of trust and paperwork!

Nevertheless, we managed it and we saw the arrival of our very first import from the well respected and established Pitypang kennel in Hungary.

Our first import was named Pitypang Nemes Hera

You will see her in the ancestry  of many of our current litters and those of breeders all over the UK and Europe.

She was a huge asset to the UK breeding programme, bringing working ability, good temperament and good health.

Hera was the first of many imports we have continued over the years to constantly evaluate our bloodlines and see where we can improve and ensure that we bring in new blood to keep the inbreeding coefficients low and produce the very best that we can.

Katy's passion for everything dog related is not limited to just breeding.

She is passionate about continued personal development and keeping up with current Issues.

Here are some of the qualifications she has gone on the gain

In addition to Academic achievements

Katy is quite proud to have worked with others to try and achieve some improvements with health and breeding

Some of the most notable accolades are the introduction of the long haired gene testing in the UK laboratories working alongside Jeanna Jones from Addaci Vizslas,

The introduction of the ECLE gene testing in the Vizsla in a UK laboratory,

These tests are used by many today helping prevent coat anomalies and health conditions.

Katy also launched of the very famous Facebook  page Vizsla Health Info which at the time of writing has just under 7K followers, she has been supported by a fabulous admin team many of which are vizsla breeders themselves,

we cant finish without talking about the westies a very important part of our lives..

The westies were a later arrival to the Olsson household

We wanted a small dog, something with character and a Westie was the obvious choice.

Fast forward 10 years and we now enjoy breeding westies as well.

Our passion for breeding nice quality healthy dogs has carried over into our westie breeding, as our Westies are primarily companions, and we breed happy healthy companion puppies.

They provide great company and a lot of spirit !
