Breeding Ethics

Here at Gunfield we take our breeding responsibilities very seriously

We ensure that any breeding we do is responsible and ethical and puts the welfare of our breeding dogs first a foremost.

Here’s some of what we do to ensure our breeding is done in this way.

We are members of the UK Kennel clubs Assured breeders scheme since 2006 we exceed the recommendations for health testing and care of our dogs.
We are fully compliant five star license holders with the local authority meaning our premises, record keeping and animals welfare meets the higher standards laid out by DEFRA.

We perform the following  tests on our Vizslas pre breeding-

HIP SCORING

ELBOW SCORING

EYE TESTING

GLAUCOMA TESTING

ECLE DNA TESTING

CEREBELLAR ATAXIA DNA TESTING

HUU DNA TESTING

LH DNA TESTING

We perform the following tests on our westies prior to breeding

CM0 TESTING

WISDOM PANEL TESTING FOR OVER 200 CONDITIONS

In addition to this we insure our dogs have the correct friendly temperament and they are free from hereditary faults such as malocclusions, Entropion or Ectropion and they have never suffered from an Autoimmune condition or skin condition.

Breeding ethics isn't all about health testing other important things are the welfare of our dogs and puppies-

Our dogs have an active life being working gundogs and or family pets, they are given lots of training and exercise and fed a good quality diet.
They are seen regularly by our vet and have immunisations to prevent disease and regular parasite control.

Our puppies are monitored from conception we have our own ultrasound scanner so we can keep a check on mum and babies regularly.

The puppies are always delivered in our home where we can supervise them 24/7 once they are older the move to the purpose built puppy house.
The puppy house has the following facilities for the puppies-

  • Large pen with wipeable walls and floor

  • Wipeable beds

  • Raised water and food bowls

  • fully lit all year round

  • Fully climate control to prevent over heating or the cold.

  • Plug heat lamps for creating warmer zones

  • Wall mounted fans for ventilation

  • Sound system for playing socialisation CDs

  • Crate to initialise crate training

  • Lots of toys

  • CCTV so they are never unsupervised.

Once out in the pen puppies come into the home daily for household socialisation , they follow  the puppy plan
